Give Taktyl your Canvas access
Press Allow, or paste a token you made in Canvas, so your AI assistant can put an activity in a Canvas page for you.
Your AI assistant can put a published activity inside a page of your Canvas course for you. To do that, Taktyl needs your own access to Canvas. It can then do only what you can do in Canvas yourself, and it sends your access only to your organisation's Canvas.
Go to Account › Integrations › Learning system. Under Your Canvas access there is a card for each Canvas your organisation has connected.
Allow, instead of making a token
Where your organisation admin has set up the Canvas API key, the card has an Allow button.
- Press Allow. Canvas's own sign-in opens in a new window.
- Sign in to Canvas if it asks, and press Authorize.
- The window closes by itself, and the card says Allowed through Canvas with the last four characters of your access.
Access given this way renews itself, so it has no expiry date. If your browser blocks the window, the card says so and gives you a link to open it. If you do not see Allow, your organisation has not set up the key yet, or nobody has opened Taktyl from a course in that Canvas yet: that is how Taktyl learns its address. You can still paste a token.
Paste a token you made in Canvas
- Open How to make a token in Canvas on the card and follow the steps: in Canvas, open Account › Settings, choose New Access Token under Approved Integrations, name it Taktyl, choose an expiry date and choose Generate Token.
- Copy the token and paste it into Canvas token on the card. Make the token in the Canvas the card names: a token from another Canvas will not work.
- Put the same date in Expires on, so Taktyl stops using it after then. You can leave it empty.
- Press Save.
The box is always empty when you come back: Taktyl keeps your token encrypted and shows only its last four characters. To change the date alone, leave the box empty and press Save. Pasting a token replaces access you gave with Allow.
Test or remove it
- Test asks Canvas whose access it is, and says whether it works. It appears once Taktyl knows your Canvas's address.
- Remove makes Taktyl forget your access. A token you made still works in Canvas until you delete it there, under Account › Settings › Approved Integrations, where you can also remove Taktyl API if you pressed Allow.
Only staff have this card. Your organisation admin cannot see your token, and nobody else's assistant can use it.
