# Make and edit an interaction > Start a new interaction, find your way round its editor, and see which activities use it. An interaction is one thing for students to do: a quiz, a word game, a timeline and so on. You build it once and can put it into as many activities as you like. ## Start one You can start an interaction from three places: - **My activities**: choose **Interactions** at the top, then **New interaction**, and pick a type. - The **Dashboard**: select a card under **Build an interaction**. - An activity's **Activity** tab: **Add a page**, then a type under **Build a new one**. Then give it a **Name** (students see it above the interaction), choose its **Folder**, and if you like an activity under **Add it to an activity** (it goes at the end). **Start from** **Blank** or **A template**. Select **Create and open**. ## The editor Along the top: - **Checks** says **Ready**, or how many things need fixing before students can use it. Select it to see the list. - **Preview** opens the interaction as a student meets it, in a new tab. - **Publish to all** (with a number), or **Publish to 1 activity**, shows once your edits have put live activities behind. It publishes them in one step. An activity that is still a draft stays a draft. - The three-dot menu: **Rename**, **Move to folder**, **Save as a template** and **Move to bin**. The tabs: - **Edit** is where you build it. Changes save by themselves; the tab bar says **Saving…** and then **Saved**. - **Used in** (with a count) lists the activities it is in, with their state. - **Insights** shows how students did on it, across every activity. - **Settings** has **Shuffle the questions for each student**, for a quiz. You can also edit an interaction without leaving an activity: open the activity's **Interactions** tab and select the interaction in the list on the left. ## When students get your changes An interaction has no versions of its own. Your edits reach students only when an activity that uses it is published again. Until then, those activities show **Unpublished changes**, and students keep what they had.
